Description

VTG 14x17" AUDUBON "Baltimore Oriole" American Lithograph Print. Flora: The birds and nest are shown set amid the large star-shaped leaves and yellow-orange blossoms of a Tulip Tree (Liriodendron tulipifera). Audubon purposefully selected this towering canopy tree because orioles frequently use its highest branches to build and secure their nests. This is a vintage reproduction plate from The Audubon Folio published in 1964 by Harry N. Abrams in cooperation with the New-York Historical Society. The image is Audubon’s famous “Baltimore Oriole” (Plate 12) by John James Audubon. Artwork Composition * Subject: The composition dynamically features three Baltimore Orioles interacting around their iconic, intricately woven, pouch-like "hang-nest". * Flora: The birds and nest are shown set amid the large star-shaped leaves and yellow-orange blossoms of a Tulip Tree (Liriodendron tulipifera).
