Prototype History The General Electric ES44AC (Evolution Series, 4400 HP, AC traction) was engineered to meet the EPA's stringent Tier 2 emissions standards while providing the massive tractive effort required for modern railroading. BNSF Railway operates one of the largest fleets of "Gevos" in the world, utilizing them as the primary power for high-priority intermodal stacks and heavy coal drags across the grueling grades of the American West. These locomotives are the face of 21st-century railroading, known for their fuel efficiency and advanced computer-controlled systems. This model is a cornerstone for any layout modeling the BNSF from the mid-2000s to the present day.
