"Lord of the World" by Robert Hugh Benson is a 1907 dystopian novel set in a future where socialism and humanism reign, religion is suppressed, and society turns to euthanasia. A global government, serving the Antichrist, uses Esperanto as its language. The Catholic Church is reduced to a few strongholds, while the rest of the world embraces a new religion based on Humanity. The story follows Percy Franklin, a priest who becomes Pope Silvester III, and Julian Felsenburgh, an Antichrist figure who rises to power, as they navigate this apocalyptic battle between good and evil.
