The stories are short, interesting and taken from real life. Each is meant to be a summary and a starting place only. As a starting place to answer the question "what does it meant to be a girl" it is better than anything I've ever seen for girls. The heroines do everything from taming wild kings to hand to hand combat, from raising children alone to throwing dinner parties for presidents, and they do it well, but humbly. The stories are written in the style of the biographical portraits of American founders written for boys in the 1800s, and so are intended to be more inspirational than historical and are less than lyric. But the book is a little resource that ought to be on every girl's shelf. This 249-page hardcover is in brand new condition with all pages crisp, clean, and sturdily bound; even the cover is nice and smooth. You won't be disappointed!
