SIGNED FINE ART PRINT BY JOHN STEELE OF AN ORIGINAL 1987 OIL ON CANVAS TITLED "A NEW AGE" ****Price Reduced by $100*** Description: You are looking at an original, Fine Art Print of John Steele's Oil on Canvas titled "A New Age" - about the subjugation and plight of the American Indians. John was strong advocate of Indian's rights and a number of his paintings depicted scenes similar to this. We purchased and still have the original oil - with that purchase John was kind enough to give us a number of signed lithographs and this one signed fine art print. Unfortunately, we lost John some years back - to say he was a hoot was an understatement. You will notice he always signed his paintings and other works with his name followed by the initials "R.N.O." - which stood for "Red Neck Oakie". You see, John hailed from Bakersfield, California - across from his ramshackle house was an oil field that pumped oil and made an inordinate amount of noise 24-7. I asked John - a prolific painter and businessman, he was not what you would consider "poor" - why he did not move to a quieter location. He looked at me like I was crazy - after all he said, "I was born here and will die here". To say John was frugal is an understatment. In addition to pictures of the print, I have also included a copy of a picture of John and Iron Eyes Cody - you younger folks will no doubt ask who in the heck is Iron Eyes Cody. Well, all I can say is ask your parents or perhaps your grandparents. Ole Iron Eyes was perhaps the most famous Holywood Indian (he acted in over 100 movies, mostly westerns in the 1940s-60s) who was not indian at all - he was Italian, a secret he took with him to his grave. But I digress, in the background behind John (on the left) and Iron Eyes (on the right) is the original oil of "A New Age". This hand photo was taken at an art show in Oklahoma shortly after John finished the painting and a year or so before we were fortunate enough to buy it - for more than eight months John refused to sell it to us. In case you have not yet figured it out, the iconic indian model in the painting is none other than Iron Eyes Cody dressed in full indian garb. There is a lot more I can you about this painting, John and his connection with Iron Eyes - a friendship that lasted for more than 40 years. If you are the forunate one who purchases this print and would like more of the provenance, just ask, I am always happy to share stories about our friend John.
