Description

From the Coffeehous - Music CD - Various Artists . While the ubiquitous café, which began its world domination in the late 1990s, is known for its comfortable familiarity and uniformity, this compilation digs remarkably deep. From the Coffeehouse Review by Jason Thurston FROM THE COFFEEHOUSE is a collection of mostly 1960s vintage folk music, brought to you by the Starbucks chain. While the ubiquitous café, which began its world domination in the late 1990s, is known for its comfortable familiarity and uniformity, this compilation digs remarkably deep. The CD features Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Nick Drake, but also shines its light on lesser-known members of the canon like Tom Paxton and Mimi and Richard Farina. Alongside well-worn (but still striking) classics such as Tim Hardin’s “If I Were a Carpenter” and Judy Collins’s version of “Suzanne” are Paxton’s bewitching “Hold On To Me Babe” and Fairport Convention’s fetching “Who Knows Where the Time Goes.”
