Solti completed the first-ever studio recording of Der Ring des Nibelungen between 1958 and 1965. A total of four releases will be released sequentially! Even now more than half a century after its recording this timeless record remains the pinnacle of excellence in terms of singers orchestra performance and sound quality. ● This 2022 remaster uses a DSD master created in 2022 from the original 1958 stereo master tapes. Overseen by Andrew Wedman formerly of Emil Berliner Studios the tapes were conditioned on a Studer A820 machine a Weiss analog-to-digital converter and a custom workstation for recording the output. Among the 38 original master tapes the oldest of which was 65 years old some required editing repairs and oxide removal. Those in poor condition were successfully restored by baking at 55°C for 10 hours and then newly mastered at 24-bit/192kHz high resolution. Mastering was handled by DECCA engineer Philip Sainy who trained under engineer Jimmy Locke who worked on the original recording sessions in 1964 and 1965 and oversaw the two transfers in 1984 and 1997. Tape hiss and noise removal uses sophisticated tools such as iZotope RX-9 and CEDAR Retouch which are far more effective and less invasive than previous programs allowing the brilliant overtones of the Vienna Philharmonic's brass and string instruments to be heard like never before. ●The Japanese edition only comes with a green label coat a three-sided case featuring the original LP jacket and a booklet with lyrics in Japanese.
