John le Carré Collection 4 Books Set - Fiction - Paperback Item Description Titles in this Set: 1. The Little Drummer Girl 2. A Perfect Spy 3. The Russia House 4. The Night Manager Description: The Little Drummer Girl Charlie, a jobbing young English actress, is accustomed to playing different roles. But when the mysterious, battle-scarred Joseph recruits her into the Israeli secret services, she enters the dangerous 'theatre of the real'. As she acts out her part in an intricate, high-stakes plot to trap and kill a Palestinian terrorist, it threatens to consume her. Set in the tragic arena of the Middle East conflict, this compelling story of love and torn loyalties plays out against the backdrop of an unwinnable war. A Perfect Spy Magnus Pym, ranking diplomat, has vanished, believed defected. The chase is on: for a missing husband, a devoted father, and a secret agent. Pym's life, it is revealed, is entirely made up of secrets. Dominated by a father who is also a confidence trickster on an epic scale, Pym has from the age of seventeen been controlled by two mentors. It is these men, racing each other, who are orchestrating the search to find the perfect spy. Described by the author as his most autobiographical work, John le Carré's eleventh novel masterfully blends wit, compassion and unflagging tension with the poignant story of an estranged father and son. The Russia House Barley Blair is not a Service man: he is a small-time publisher, a self-destructive soul whose only loves are whisky and jazz. But it was Barley who, one drunken night at a dacha in Peredelkino during the Moscow Book Fair, was befriended by a high-ranking Soviet scientist who could be the greatest asset to the West since perestroika began, and made a promise. Nearly a year later, his drunken promise returns to haunt him. A reluctant Barley is quickly trained by British Intelligence and sent to Moscow to liaise with a go-between, the beautiful Katya. Both are lonely and disillusioned. Each is increasingly certain that if the human race is to have any future, all must betray their countries ... In his first post-glasnost spy novel, le Carré captures the effect of a slow and uncertain thaw on ordinary people and on the shadowy puppet-masters who command them. The Night Manager At the start of it all, Jonathan Pine is merely the night manager at a luxury hotel. But when a single attempt to pass on information to the British authorities - about an international businessman at the hotel with suspicious dealings - backfires terribly, and people close to Pine begin to die, he commits himself to a battle against powerful forces he cannot begin to imagine. In a chilling tale of corrupt intelligence agencies, billion-dollar price tags and the truth of the brutal arms trade, John le Carré creates a claustrophobic world in which no one can be trusted. Requested seller defer posting books as I would be away. Seller ignored both my requests & sent books. Royal mail would only hold onto them for a certain time ( I had hassle of contacting them from abroad), so were delivered & on my doorstep 1 day before I returned. Luckily the Postwoman wrapped them in a RM Plastic Bag to avoid damage. 5 star Royal Mail, 1 star seller for ignoring my requests. But books are as advertised & price was ok.
Books were misdelivered by courier but seller refunded once contacted. As this was Xmas gift, I had to buy from Amazon only for these books to arrive a week later. Contacted seller about collecting them but they said not to snd donate to a friend/ community group, which we did. Great service only let down by Royal Mail.
My books arrived early by a few days.the cicero trilogy books are great value and of a high quality, they came in new condition and well boxed.the service was excellent and swift, first time i have used them but will not be the last time.you should visit this ebayer and at your convenience view the stock that's for sale.
