The cover of this matchbook is for the "Hotel Plaza" ( Laredo, Texas). I could not find information on it being haunted but there is a list of other " Affiliated National Hotels" on the list inside that are haunted. See internet information. The haunted hotels include, Admiral (Mobile, AL), Claypool (Indianapolis, IN), Hotel Stephen F. Austin (Austin, TX), Brownwood Hotel (Brownwood, TX), Hotel Buccaneer (Galveston), Cactus Hotel (San Angelo, TX), Menger ( San Antonio, TX), Hotel Galvez (Galveston, TX) and The Falls (Marlin, TX). The Admiral opened in 1940 and is featured as a haunted location on local ghost tours. The Brownwood opened in 1930 and is associated with ghosts stories by locals. The Claypool (1903-1967) is considered sight of gruesome, unsolved and mysterious murders...notably the "Dresser Drawer Murder in 1954 of young woman and unsolved murder of an Army nurse which fueled lasting legends of paranormal activity. The Stephen F. Austin Hotel is on local ghost tours with reports of sheets being pulled off beds and sightings of spirits. The Buccaneer is famously haunted by a "ghost bride" who hanged herself in the west turret in mid 1900's. She is frequently seen in room 501. Other reports include disembodied voices, vibrating cutlery and apparitions. The historic Cactus Hotel build in 1929 has sightings of a "tweed wearing old man" in basement and "Straw Suit Man" in ballroom mezzanine and blood curdling screams on 2nd floor along with self closing doors. The Menger, established in 18559 is widely regarded as one of the most haunted in US. Guests and staff report encounters wit friendly spirits including Teddy Roosevelt, a maid named Sallie White and rancher Richard King. Paranormal activity is concentrated in the old Victorian wing, particularly room 3084 and the bar area. Sallie White, the chambermaid was murdered and she is frequently spotted in white uniform carrying clean linens. Other sightings include soldiers from the Alamo, and a Civil War era "Lady in Blue". The Galvez Hotel (Now Grand Galvez) is renowned as one of the states most haunted hotels with frequent paranormal activities particularly around room 501 with spirit of "Audra". She hung herself after she thought her fiancé died at see but later he returned. Guests report locked doors, lights and phone acting on their own. There is a "ghost of Sister Katherine" who reported managed children in the 1900 storm. The hotel is believed to built on the site of a mass grave from this hurricane storm of 1900. There is a portrait on the wall of Bernado de Glavez (hotel's namesake) and visitors report that the face turns into a skull or experience being dizzy when attempting to take a photo of it.
