1931 strike photo. CP TUUL affiliated Nat'l Textile Workers Union. Lawrence, MA.. The NTWU was established by the Communist-dominated Trade Union Unity League. Berkman had been arrested in February 1931 during the NTWU strike against a speed-up and served seven months in prison. In October 1931 Berkman participated in a second strike and was again imprisoned pending deportation to Poland. The strikers were addressed by Edith Berkman (lower-center waving), National Textile Workers Union (NTWU) field organizer and Communist Party member.
