For the 114 codices of the signature group described here, this is their first publication in printed form. The old High German fragments collected under Cgm 5248 have also been included. The manuscripts reached the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in various ways: during the 19th and early 20th centuries, 61 were donated by various institutions, mainly the Allgemeines Reichsarchiv in Munich and the Kreisbibliothek Regensburg, while others were acquired through purchases in antiquarian bookshops. Most of the manuscripts were written in the 15th century in the Bavarian-Austrian and Alemannic dialect areas, and a majority of them could be assigned to specific monasteries. The contents of the manuscripts include both literature for religious practice and devotion as well as codices with texts on Bavarian history; medical literature is also strongly represented. An example of a richly decorated manuscript is Cgm 6406, the "World Chronicle" of Rudolf of Ems. Die Handschriften gelangten auf unterschiedlichen Wegen in die Bayerische Staatsbibliothek: 61 wurden im Laufe des 19. und zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts von verschiedenen Institutionen, vor allem dem Allgemeinen Reichsarchiv Munchen und der Kreisbibliothek Regensburg abgegeben, weitere wurden hauptsachlich durch Ankaufe im Antiquariatshandel erworben. Der uberwiegende Teil der Handschriften ist im 15. Jahrhundert im bayerisch-osterreichischen und alemannischen Sprachraum entstanden, ein Grossteil von ihnen konnte bestimmten Klostern zugeordnet werden. Die inhaltliche Bandbreite der Handschriften umfasst sowohl das Schrifttum fur religiose Praxis und Andacht, als auch Codices mit Texten zur bayerischen Geschichte; stark vertreten ist auch die medizinische Literatur. Ein Beispiel fur eine reich mit Buchschmuck ausgestattete Handschrift ist Cgm 6406, die 'Weltchronik' des Rudolf von Ems.

  2. As pictured / as described. Shipping - I ordered Dec 12 and glanced to see something like "Arrives ... 17th-21st", quickly thinking, "OK - plenty of time for Christmas". When it didn't show up, I went back to find it was actually "January 14th-17th" - oops! my goof! Wasn't expecting 5 week shipping. But ultimately, it did come in on Dec 26th, so quicker than the stated and might have been even quicker if not for holidays. Otherwise, good packing. Quick, easy transaction. Thanks!
