Interesting facts: The San Francisco 49ers are an American professional football team based in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the league's National Football Conference (NFC) West division. The team (normally; that is, prior to "the virus") plays its home games at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California; which is located southeast of San Francisco, in the heart of Silicon Valley. The name "49ers" comes from the prospectors who arrived in Northern California in the 1849 Gold Rush. The team colors are red, gold and silver; the color gold was used because of the gold from the gold rush. The team is legally and corporately registered as the San Francisco Forty Niners. They have played in 7 and won 5 Super Bowl championships between 1981 and 1994: 1981 (XVI), 1984 (XIX), 1988 (XXIII), 1989 (XXIV), 1994 (XXIX) Four of those came in the 1980s and were led by Hall of Famers Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott, Steve Young, Charles Haley, and Fred Dean as well as coaches Bill Walsh and George Seifert. The mascot, S ourdough Sam, is a gol d rush prospector–themed character who wears a wide-brimmed ten-gallon hat, is very animated and loves to have fun!
