Hello and welcome to this commemorative plate depicting Hendrick Hudson landing on the Hudson River. The plate shows several different scenes. The center of the plate depicts the Landing, at the top of the bowl is a portrait of Hendrick Hudson and above him at the rim is Robert Fulton. Starting at 1 o'clock on the rim and running clockwise, there are pictures of The Clermont, Robert Fulton's first steamboat, then the Capital Building in Albany, New York, then Grant's Tomb, The S.S. Hendrick Hudson, Westpoint from the North, and finally Washington's in Newburgh, NY. The back of the 10 inch diameter plate has the manufacturers mark which states it was produced by the RM & Co. meaning Rowland Marsellus & Company. It also states the plate was made expressly for L. Strauss & Sons of New York. The blue glaze on this has very lightly saturated thru revealing at as 'flow blue.'
