This striking portrait features a woman styled in a classic antebellum off-the-shoulder blue dress with pleated white trim and a traditional center-part hairstyle. The artwork appears to be a hand-tinted solar print or pastel sketch, typical of the mid-Victorian period. The portrait is housed in its original, highly unique oval wood frame. The frame features an incredible double row of convex brass tacks/studs, giving it an appealing folk art or early industrial aesthetic that makes a massive visual statement. Condition Report: This is an authentic antique and shows beautiful, natural age. The artwork itself is clean with vibrant blue tones. The frame shows some cosmetic veneer/gesso loss on the outer edges (visible at the very top and bottom edges—please see close-up photos). This minor distress adds to its genuine character and "shabby chic" historic patina. Glass is intact. Ship
