The book comes from the personal library of Batista-Moon Studio , a respected commercial photography studio that has served the Monterey Peninsula for more than 40 years. The owners are downsizing their extensive photography library and have asked me to assist in finding new homes for these wonderful books. Several books from this collection have been personally signed or inscribed by the photographers. Henry Gilpin (1922-2011) was one of California's finest black & white landscape photographers. A student of Ansel Adams , he became known for his masterfully crafted silver gelatin photographs and for inspiring generations of photographers through his teaching. His work is represented in numerous museum collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art , Art Institute of Chicago , Yale University Art Gallery , Amon Carter Museum , and the Monterey Museum of Art . The catalog features an excellent selection of Gilpin's photographs along with an essay by photographer John Sexton , one of Gilpin's longtime friends, colleagues, and former students.
