This large and extensively illustrated book chronicles the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans car races from the beginnings in 1923 up to 1982. The text is in French, but the photographs are all captioned in both French and English. There are chapters for each race, year by year, with the most photographs and color photographs for the years 1960 through 1975. At the end of the book is an Appendix section with full results for all the races, with stats on the drivers and constructors. This is a definitive reference on the subject, with all the beautiful photos alone making it an outstanding coffee-table book for the car enthusiast. Condition is very good overall: the dustjacket is worn with rips and creases, and both the top and bottom edges are curled; also there are some tears on the top and bottom that were repaired with clear tape. The book itself looks almost new, with sharp corners and a tight, solid binding. The title page has two dedications with signatures (picture 8); I do not recognize the names - except for John Frankenheimer - director of the 1966 film Grand Prix - was he the previous owner? Looks like a dedication from an Automobile Club De L'ouest person, not sure who the other one is...Maybe they add to the book's value? Be your own judge. There is some yellowing to the outer edges of the pages, and some spots along the top of the pages (3rd picture), but I would say the condition is excellent for a 40-year old book. One problem I saw is in the 1966 chapter, on pages 175-176 (see the last picture) which has either a printing defect on both pages, or someone spilled glue or something in the book that distorted the ink on both pages; you can see it just under the rear wheel of the GT40 and on the text on the opposite page. Other than that, I found no stains, markings or other issues on any of the pages. I will ship it USPS Media Mail in a cardboard box with bubblewrap insulation to protect it in transit. Shipping price applies to the lower 48 US states, if you are outside the U.S. please contact me before bidding so I can obtain a shipping quote. Email any questions, thanks for looking!
