Description

RC's RR HO Scale 1970+ Rivarossi 4-8-8-4 Union Pacific 4005 Big Boy WORKING!!!. Made in Italy. I have re-soldered the motor wires with silver bearing solder and flux, and have cleaned the connections, as well as cleaned up and reattached the chassis power wire. All done by IPC-610-A and IPC-J-STD standards (I am in the defense and aerospace electronics sector). Last price drop. $300 or best offer. Here we have a post 1974, working, round motor Rivarossi Big Boy including the tender. Made in Italy. No box. I have serviced the locomotive gearboxes, and oiled the bushings in the motor. The brushes have also been cleaned carefully. The wheels on the locomotive have been thoroughly cleaned, as well as all of the side bars have been properly oiled, and dabbed to remove any excess oil. The headlight works. I have re-soldered the motor wires with silver bearing solder and flux, and have cleaned the connections, as well as cleaned up and reattached the chassis power wire. All done by IPC-610-A and IPC-J-STD standards (I am in the defense and aerospace electronics sector). In the video, the locomotive is DC, being run on my Digitrax DCC layout, in Analog mode, which is why the motor sounds the way it does. It will not sound this way on a DC layout. It is being run at half throttle, forward and reverse. At the end of the video, the locomotive stops when hitting the frog on my Code 83 track, which leads me to my next point; IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO RUN THIS LOCOMOTIVE ON CODE 83 TRACK! The wheel flanges are too large and will catch on the frogs of your turnouts. It is HIGHLY recommended to run on Code 100 track. NOW FOR THE FLAWS, Which admittedly are not much, but I will list them anyway, because that is what a thorough seller does. The tender; At some point, someone tried to either convert to DCC with sound, or potentially tried to convert the locomotive to RC. The hole in the front of the tender has been patched with .060 sheet styrene from the inside, and painted flat black. (pictured) Honestly, you'll never see it while running as it is blocked by the rear of the locomotive. One ladder is half broken off, (pictured) unfortunately I do not have any sacrificial rolling stock with a matching ladder, or I would have repaired it for you. The other 3 ladders are intact. Front and rear handrails are missing, along with the rear headlight lens. The very front of the top of the coal rail bar, appears to have been broken and glued, so I did not disturb the area. The locomotive; I'll be completely honest with you. For how old this Big Boy is, its in excellent condition. The only flaws on the locomotive are the missing rear handrails and the number plates from the boiler cover. That's it. All drawbars and pushrods, along with all hardware are completely intact and functioning on the locomotive. The tender has been weighted to ensure proper tracking. The headlight works. and even for only having only 2 power pickups per side on each of the 4 axle mains (which were cleaned), this runs great on the small section of my layout between Code 83 turnouts. All of that being said, this is an AS-IS sale, due to the age of the locomotive. It should run great, however individual issues with ones layout, do not reflect the sale of the locomotive. What You See Is What You Get. There is light dust leftover, as I did not want to aggressively clean the locomotive, that will be up to the buyer to do. I have however used a soft brush to get the majority off. The packing and boxing of the item will be on video, for both your and my protection. This is a vintage item, and will be packed EXTREMELY WELL for shipping, as I know all to well how these shipping companies treat our packages. AS-IS with NO RETURNS. Hopefully I have covered everything about this magnificent vintage Big Boy for you. If you have any further questions, reach out and ask. I won't bite :) Thanks for looking at another one of RC's RR items. I take pride in my railroad, as evidenced by my feedback. I am selling this as I am more of a diesel power fan, specifically the Conrail era. While there were still some steamers working at that time, I prefer the looks of GP locomotives. Enjoy!
